Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris, born October 20 1964 was a prominent American politician as well as a lawyer. She is currently the 49th vice president of the United States. She is the first woman to hold the vice-president and the highest-ranking female politician in U.S history. Being a part of the Democratic Party, she was the attorney general of California from 2011 to 2017 and an United States senator representing California from 2017 to 2021. Harris was born and was raised in Oakland, California. Harris began her career at the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. Harris was later hired to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In 2003, she was elected the city's district attorney. She was elected Attorney-General of California in 2010 and was elected again in 2014. Harris was the junior United States senator from California from 2017 until 2021. Harris beat Loretta Santiago in the 2016 Senate election, becoming the second African American woman to serve in the Congress, and the first South Asian American American to be elected to the United States Senate. She was a senator and was a vocal advocate for reforms to healthcare, federal cannabis de-scheduling, a pathway to citizenship for immigrants who are not legally documented, the DREAM Act, a ban against assault weapons, as well as progressive tax reform. She was well-known for her direct questions to Trump government officials during Senate hearings.
